This game came right in the middle of Alex Rodriguez' troubles regarding fans booing and his lack of clutch hits. Or rather his lack of doing pretty much anything.  It came in a month where Alex hit .213 with only 3 HR and 11 RBI.  Because of the home run, he was redeemed for a day by the fans.  Also, the Alex-loving media felt as if this was an opportunity to come down harder on the (justified) boos. Unfortunately, it wasn't long before he was back into his swoon which reached it's lowest depth in a three game series in Anaheim where he struck out 10 times in 15 at-bats.

Let's face it.  2006 will go down as a tumultuous season for Rodriguez, something only a stellar post-season would have erased from the minds of the fans (it didn't happen.)  Try as they might however, the Yankee brass, YES network and media as a whole will try to add some gloss to the media savvy Rodriguez.  Labelling this game as a classic is such as an example.  This was a bad and boring game with a dramatic finish.  In the postseason, a two-out, come from behind walk-off HR may be enough to redeem a bad game, but not so in this case.  This was a rather boring game with a good starting match-up between John Smoltz and Chien-Ming Wang, but little else other than a dramatic finish.

I'm sorry, but I see right through this one and I'm not buying into this Alex Rodriuguez PR-job masqueraded as a "Yankee" Classic.  Along with the Alex Rodriguez 3-HR, 10 RBI game against Anaheim, YES should take them both, put them in cold storage and show some true classics.
