The New York Yankees were the first team to begin regularly wearing uniform numbers. A tradition dating back to 1929.  This website attempts to make it easy to find who wore what numbers in what year.  It's not 100% complete, so if there's any information you can help us with, please feel free to contact us.

Yankee Classic Rating (1 low to 10 high): 2
Not quite a classic unless you're a fan of pitching duels.  If so, then this one is right up your alley and you can add 5 or 6 points to my rating.  Other than some quality pitching, there's not much else of note in this game.  In fact, my favorite highlight came on the only run of the game where the "Giambi Shift" turned an inning ending grounder to short, into an RBI single...since the shortstop (Jed Lowrie) was playing somewhere on the wrong side of second base.  Personally, I think those extreme defensive shifts are useless and love any opportunity to expose them as so.  This was a sweeter case than usual.  But is it a reason to "relive" this game.  Probably not.
